Day 1.
Pick up at your local pick
up point and enjoy a leisurely
drive onto Dover. Depart Dover
to France by ferry, onward
to Brussels, Belgium for your
overnight stay, and to explore
the Christmas Markets.
Day 2.
After breakfast we travel
to Heidelburg for our lunch
stop. After lunch travel onto
Rothenburg-ob-der-Tauber,
Germany for an overnight stay.
Day 3.
This morning after
breakfast we travel into
Nuremburg, Germany to join
your river cruise vessel the
Viking Freya
Day 4.
Main-Daunbe
Canal Scenic cruising and
Nuremburg, Germany. Sail
through themany locks that
comprise the engineering
marvel of theMain Danube
Canal. Stretching 106miles
fromKelheimon the Danube
to Bamberg on the River Main,
it connects the Black Sea to
the North Sea. In Nuremburg,
tour themedieval walled city
with its half timbered houses
and dramatic castle. See the
Palace of Justice, site of the
1946 Nuremberg trials. Shop
for handicrafts in the delightful
Market Square, or take an
optional WorldWar II history
tour.
Day 5.
Regensburg, Germany.
In the beautiful preserved
medieval city of Regensburg,
see St. Peter’s Church with its
gleaming spires, the Old Town
Hall and Old Stone Bridge. In
the afternoon, enjoy scenic
cruising along the Danube
River. Or take an optional
excursion to the dramatic
Danube Narrows through the
narrowest and steepest section
of the river.
Day 6.
Passau, Germany. This
elegant German city on three
rivers the Inn, Ilz and Danube
is home to the impressive
18th century New Bishop’s
Residenz. Stroll the town’s
beautiful old streets, past
traditional patrician houses.
See the Oberhaus Fortress and
visit the impressive baroque St.
Stephan’s Cathedral.
Day 7.
Sail the Danube through
Austria’s glorious Wachau
Valley, a UNESCOWorld
Heritage site rich in culture,
history and natural beauty.
Explore 900 year oldMelk
Abbey, with its magnificent
frescoes and library, and
pricelessmedieval manuscripts.
Day 8.
Vienna, Austria. Your
panoramic city tour takes in
the Ringstrasse, linedwith
imposing palaces and grand
residences. Seemagnificent
Hofburg Palace, St. Stephen’s
Cathedral and the State Opera
House. Enjoy an optional
evening concert of Mozart
and Strauss performed by a
Viennese orchestra.
Day 9.
Budapest, Hungary.
Enjoy a guided city tour,
starting on the cosmopolitan
Pest side of the city. See the
elegant boulevards and
mansions, National Opera
House, Parliament Building
and Chain Bridge. Visit Heroes’
Square to find out more about
Hungary’s history. Cross the
Danube to the castle district
of Buda, and exploreMatthias
Church and Fishermen’s
Bastion for magnificent views
of the city. In the afternoon, sail
the picturesque Danube Bend.
Day 10.
Budapest. After
disembarking in Budapest, join
your landcruiser as we travel
to Bratislava, Slovakia for our
lunch stop. This afternoon
we travel to Prague for an
overnight stay. This evening we
will visit Prague castle and have
a walking tour down to
the Charles Bridge and the old
town.
Day 11.
This morning we travel
to Dresden for our lunch stop
and a walk around the town,
followed this afternoon by our
drive to Cologne, Germany
for our overnight stay, and a
visit to the fabulous Christmas
markets.
Day 12.
After breakfast we
travel onto Calais for our ferry
back to Dover, and then on to
your pickup point in the late
evening.
