A GODMOTHER LIKE NO OTHER

Meet the voice of Anthem of the SeasSM

We are delighted to announce that Emma Wilby, 27-year-old Thomson travel agent, has been named Godmother of Anthem of the Seas℠ after a hotly contested competition between six finalists. Emma will take her place in cruise industry history at the ship’s naming ceremony in Southampton on April 20th, where she will not only officially name the ship, but perform Katy Perry’s hit song Firework alongside celebrity choir Only Boys Aloud, in front of a VIP crowd.

About Emma:

‘I’ve always loved to sing,’ she said. ‘Since getting married in November I have joined the Military Wives’ Choir up in Kinloss, and that’s reminded me how much I love to sing…and gave me the push to enter the competition.’ When she’s not working as a travel agent for Thomson, Emma is a volunteer drama therapist, working with children in her adopted home of Elgin, where she moved with her husband last year.

The title of Godmother is a lifetime role, and one that is of particular significance for Sunderland-born Emma, who has family ties to the shipbuilding industry. Her grandfather was once Head Foreman Shipwright for Austin & Pickersgill shipbuilders in the northeast and she is delighted to be carrying on her family’s association with the sea, as well as representing Royal Caribbean on a global stage. ‘I know the role is about far more than singing at the launch’ she said, ‘it’s also about being an ambassador for the brand. I’m really honoured to have been chosen.

A Royal Fairytale

In addition to her moment in the spotlight, Emma will also enjoy a glamorous Godmother makeover, vocal training with celebrity voice coach Craig Yates, and the full VIP experience onboard the ship’s inaugural sailing. ‘I still can’t quite believe I’ve won’, she said. ‘I am hugely excited to be taking on the role of Godmother for Anthem of the Seas℠ – it will be incredible to sing in front of all these people and a real honour to give the ship the best send-off possible.’
