Itinerary
1. Ypres, Belgium & Overnight in Lille,
France
An early start this morning as we head for
Dover for a lunchtime ferry to France. Once
on the continent we drive for approximately
90 minutes, crossing into Belgium where
we stop at the Flemish town of Ypres. There
will be time to have a look around and also
purchase evening dinner if required. You may
then pay your respects during the ‘Last Post’
ceremony. This takes place each evening in
commemoration of British and Commonwealth
soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of
World War I and whose graves are unknown.
We then re-join the coach for a short drive to
our overnight hotel near Lille.
2. Luxembourg Capital & Mulhouse,
France
Depart after breakfast and travel via
the motorways to Luxembourg where we
make a stop around lunchtime. The old city
of Luxembourg is a UNESCO World Heritage
site, with one third being landscaped green
spaces. There will be time to take the tourist
bus or train in order to discover the best of the
sights. Or just take time for lunch, sightseeing
or shopping. We continue via the Alsace region
of France to our next overnight stop near
Mulhouse.
3. Lucerne, Switzerland & Verona, Italy
Shortly after leaving our hotel this morning
we will leave the European Union and enter
Switzerland, where we are greeted by a
landscape that unfolds to show us beautiful
green hills and crystal clear lakes. We make
a stop in the popular tourist city of Lucerne,
famous for its covered wooden bridge dating
back to 1333. Here we will have time to
buy lunch and do some sightseeing before
continuing our journey south passing some of
the Swiss Lakes as we head towards the Italian
border. We then pass through the Italian Lake
District and enter the Veneto region of Italy
arriving at our hotel near the ‘Romeo & Juliet’
city of Verona.
4. Trieste, Italy
After leaving Verona today we make our way
towards Venice and then across to Trieste for
embarkation of Costa Mediterranea. Trieste is
a compact town so you may wish to leave your
luggage at the port and have a look around
before boarding. The town centre is easily
accessible from the cruise terminal and the city
sightseeing bus departs opposite.
5. Split, Croatia
Nestling on the sparkling Dalmatian coast
the medieval Croatian port of Split faces the
islands of the Kornati archipelago. Looking the
other way across Split’s waterfront you will see
Diocletian’s Palace, one of the best-preserved
Roman palaces in Europe and a UNESCO World
Heritage site. The pedestrianised centre of
Split is easy to walk around. Wander around
its huddle of alleys and piazzas, or for a great
view, climb the steps to the top of the 200ft-
high cathedral bell tower. Take a seat at one of
the many cafés along the seafront or pop into
a wine cellar to sample the excellent locally

produced reds and whites.
6. Kotor, Montenegro
This morning we enter the Gulf of Kotor, often
called Europe’s southernmost fjord. Surrounded by
impressive walls, Kotor has heavy Venetian influences.
The medieval buildings are intersected by narrow
streets and squares and the cathedral is one of the
most beautiful examples of Roman architecture on
the Adriatic. It’s easy to see why its well preserved
monuments and architecture have earned it a place on
UNESCOs Historical Heritage list.
7. Kefalonia, Greece
Today we sail into Argostoli, the main port of Kefalonia.
It is also the largest of all the Ionian Islands. Located
on the Western coast of the island, it boasts crystalline
and shallow waters. As the biggest city on the island
it enjoys a thriving and rich commercial activity. The
jewel of the city is its seafront, with palm trees and
wonderful mosaics on the pavement.
8. Corfu Island, Greece
