Look out for bottlenose dolphins and fur seals or the rare Fiordland Crested Penguin in this unusual ecosystem, a mix of fresh and saltwater.

Walk the Dunedin Street Art Trail in this culture-friendly city on South Island. Cycle or take a tour round beautiful Otago Harbour or explore the city’s Scottish-inspired Victorian and Edwardian architecture by bike. See the magnificent Dunedin Railway Station, Dunedin Prison or the gothic-style First Church of Otago. Take high tea in imposing Larnach Castle and discover the lovely gardens and views.

Napier, New Zealand

Ride in a Maori war canoe, raft down rushing waters or watch sheepdogs at work in lovely Napier on North Island. Walk around the amazing art deco architecture, built after an earthquake in the 1930s. See the gannet colonies at Cape Kidnappers or take a tasting tour of the vineyards of Hawke’s Bay. Every February Napier holds a stylish Art Deco weekend of all things 1930s, including vintage cars, fashion and music.

Explore the historic Edwin Fox in picturesque Picton, a ship that once carried Florence Nightingale to the Crimea, convicts to Australia and settlers to New Zealand. Embrace the great outdoors on a walking or cycling tour along the Queen Charlotte Track, with its stunning views of Marlborough Sound. See spectacular scenery on a boating, kayaking, scuba diving or fishing trip or sample delicious Marlborough wines.

Dusky Sound

Be wow’ed by the awe-inspiring beauty of remote and unspoilt Dusky Sound, on the south west corner of New Zealand in Fiordland National Park. Dusky Sound, with its impressive cliffs and thundering waterfalls, was discovered by Captain Cook in 1773 after his crossing of the Southern Ocean. Look out for Fiordland Penguins and other sea and bird life and be blown away by the silence and splendour of this amazing place.

Milford Sound

Be blown away by the awe-inspiring splendour of Milford Sound, in the Fiordland National Park on South Island. The stunning scenery of this tranquil fjord boasts cascading waterfalls, towering wooded cliffs and deep, mysterious waters – perfect for exploring by helicopter, boat or kayak. Hike along the famous Milford Track or be enchanted by the fascinating underwater world at the Milford Underwater Observatory.
